Grand renovation blends old and new.
This once modest Federation house more than doubled in size and became an architectural showcase of blending old with new.
The front of the house with the heritage facade and original fireplaces and cornices were maintained and a vast light-filled extension was added at the back of the house. An additional story with home office, guest bedroom and parents' retreat that overlooks the landscaped garden and pool completed this substantial renovation.
The clients' brief was to keep some of the original house's character, but incorporate modern functionality adapted for relaxed living.
We chose vintage chocolate timber floors in the new part of the house and had the original floorboards sanded and stained to match these to provide continuity and flow.
The kitchen and dining cabinetry were kept dark to let the sensual Statuario marble benchtop and splash back take centre stage. The warm palette of greens, yellows and ochres in the living room was inspired by the large Felicia Aroney artwork that ILI sourced.
The house flows with ease and opens up to an unexpectedly spacious L-shaped living, dining and kitchen area that transitions seamlessly into the relaxed outdoor living.
