The spotted gum floors flow seamlessly from the entry up the sculptural floating staircase and into the open kitchen / living area.
Inner West House
This large family home has a sense of conviviality and warmth despite its sleek, contemporary appearance.
Our clients, a young family of four, bought an old house on a large block of land in Sydney’s Inner West with the intention to demolish and build an architecturally designed house. The brief was to create a modern home with a simplified sense of calm. To achieve this, ILI chose warm, natural materials and tactile elements such as the slatted timber panels, spotted gum floors, stone bench tops and soft wool carpets.
In the kitchen, we paired striking granite benchtops in a honed ‘leathered’ finish with crisp white V-groove cabinets and reflected the warmth of the floorboards in the walnut choice for the pantry and bottom cabinets.
The furnishings in neutral greys and blues together with the indoor / outdoor connection foster a sense of casual, easy living. The result is a functional and relaxing home that can adapt to this growing family’s needs.
The warm monochrome palette is punctuated by black window and door frames. We continued these black elements in the architectural hardware and tapware throughout.
